What does the funeral plan cover?
Our funeral plans cover all costs directly associated with the funeral service, including the casket, venue, transportation, and a stipend for ceremonial expenses. Coverage details vary by plan, so please review the specific terms for more information.
What benefits are included in this Funeral plan?
- Cover for stillborn children, and for newborn children for their first three months.
- Instant accidental death cover of R5 000 for all lives insured from acceptance date to the start of the policy.
- Double Accident benefit – Policy pays double the benefit if an assured pass due to an Accident.
- Premium Waiver – Death – guaranteed insurance for your family, without them having to pay any premiums for Five years after your death.
I already have policies with Assupol but cannot remember who is covered and for how much; where can I view my policy details?

Is there a waiting period on the Funeral cover?
There is no waiting period for accidental death on Funeral cover (but the policy must be in effect)
There is a (6) six month waiting period for natural death on a funeral policy. The waiting period starts on the day that the policy is accepted and will apply for six months to the day thereafter. Please note: the number of premiums paid does not mean the waiting period is completed.
The suicide waiting period for Funeral cover: with the Excellence Family Funeral Plan, a benefit will not be paid if the death due to suicide occurs within six months of the start of the policy benefit.
How do I claim and how long will it take to get the money?
To submit a death claim you require the following documents:
- Completed death claim form; (visit our Downloads for this form)
- Certified copy of the original death certificate.
- Certified copy of the deceased’s ID with deceased or similar notice stamped on it.
- Copy of the three-page Department of Home Affairs- BI 1663 (Notification of death/still-birth) form.
- Certified copy of the claimant’s ID (the person submitting the claim); and
- Bank statement showing the account number and account holder details.
Please don’t hold documentation back because they’re not certified. We can always confirm the validity of the documents on our side.

As soon as all required documents are received the Claim will be processed and paid within 24hours.
I do not need cover for myself; is it compulsory for me to be covered on this plan?
Not at all; there must be at least one person covered with a minimum monthly premium of R 70.00.
How can I be sure this is not a scam?
The information that needs to be completed is only to capture your funeral plan.
A 3-step verification process needs to be successfully completed before this plan is accepted.
